BA (Hons) Accounting and Economics
The study of Accounting and Economics brings students face to face with the current trends, practices and themes within both the Accounting and in touch with global economies. This practical and relevant course develops students to become confident, knowledgeable and forward thinking graduates ready to take on this growing sector head on. 90% of Accounting and Economics graduates are in employment or further study after 6 months. Studying economics enables you to gain a sound knowledge of economic principles and to appreciate fully the way in which this knowledge can be applied in 'real world' situations. The field of study emphasises the role of economics in the formation of policy by individuals, companies and governments as well as offering an appreciation of the role played by business in a modern economy.
Studying accounting will provide you with a sound basis for progression to careers in accounting or with an accounting bias, as well as for careers in general management. It will also afford a good preparation for professional accounting qualifications.

College Lane Campus
The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Job Opportunity Potential
An economist provides specialist advice based on economic theory and knowledge. They study data and statistics and carry out in-depth research, which enables them to be able to forecast future trends and make recommendations. Economists are employed in a variety of roles in both the public and private sectors, and they are highly sought after. Typical jobs relating to Economics include Financial Risk Analyst, Actuary or Statistician. Other options that use relevant skills such as analytical and problem-solving would be in sectors such as business intelligence, market research, retail merchandising and social research.
Our graduates have started their careers in roles such as emerging market analyst, fund manager’s assistant, management trainee, merchandise associate, pensions administrator, purchase ledger accountant, quality assurance analyst, settlements clerk, trainee accountant and trainee stockbroker. GCSE: Grade 4/C in English, Mathematics, and Science.
Undergraduate (year 1)
- Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
- IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
- Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted
