BA (Hons) Business Studies

This course is ideal if you want a business degree that can lead to a wide range of careers. Business Studies has been Hertfordshire Business School’s flagship undergraduate program for over 50 years and continually evolves to meet current business and industry needs. The First Year gives you a solid foundation, while the Second and Final Years allow you to choose optional modules from across business disciplines including marketing, human resource management, finance, accounting, and management. You also have the opportunity to study a language. This course is aligned with several professional bodies for students to work towards achieving professional body recognition.

Hertfordshire Business School’s BA Business Studies is taught by a highly regarded academic team with extensive international experience and their insights into global business practices have shaped every part of the course.

You’ll have the opportunity to add an even deeper international dimension to your BA by choosing optional language modules or studying abroad between your Second and Final Years in Europe, North America, or Asia. 

Work placement

Practical experience can really make your CV stand out to potential employers and our BA Business Studies gives you the option of adding a year-long work placement to your degree.

You can either spend 12 months working for your placement company, or six months working and six months studying abroad at one of our partner universities. While you’re working, you’ll be paid by your employer.

In recent years, our students have gone on placements with Mitsubishi Electric, Walt Disney, Carphone Warehouse, and Toys R Us, taking on roles including the business administrator, HR assistant, department manager, and marketing and communications assistant.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

UCAS Points

  • 104

A Level

  • BCC - Requires Maths A level. Other A Levels may come from a selection of either Engineering or Technology, Science, Design, Computing, or Business related subjects. General studies/critical thinking not accepted.

BTEC

  • DMM -  Requires Extended Diploma in Engineering (DMM) to include Distinction in Further Maths

GCSE: Grade 4/C in English, Mathematics, and Science.

Undergraduate (year 1)

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)

  • Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post-Standard XII to be considered
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
