MSc Health Psychology

This course is designed to give you an advanced knowledge and understanding of Health Psychology theory and practice, and of the application of health psychology across all aspects of health, illness and disability. As such, a good understanding of basic psychological concepts, research methods and statistics is required for success.

Our MSc Health Psychology course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), providing the first stage of training for becoming a Health Psychologist, and equipping students with the necessary qualification to undertake stage two training in Health Psychology accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for those wishing to pursue a career as a Practitioner Psychologist in Health. A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (60% or above) at undergraduate and MSc Level is usually required for entry onto Stage 2 training.

Talbot Campus is where the majority of our Faculties are located and is also where you'll find the main university facilities, such as The Sir Michael Cobham Library, the Student Centre and SportBU - a fully equipped sports centre and gym. There are many study spaces where you can work in groups or individually within the library and the Student Centre, as well as in the Purple Lounge.

The MSc Health Psychology course provides our graduates with a sound training in health and psychology related skills to enable you to enter a number of professional avenues across academic, healthcare, and public health settings, including research psychologist positions, postdoctoral research in health psychology, and in a variety of medical settings. It also provides a potential route to undertake a PhD or Doctoral level study in Health Psychology or related area and is a good grounding for increasing success in obtaining a place on a Doctorate Training Programme in Clinical Psychology.

Entry requirements for Bangladeshi students

  • You need to have a Master’s degree from a recognized Bangladeshi institution, which should follow a three or four-year Bachelor's degree.

Entry requirements for Indian students

  • You need to have an Indian Bachelor's (Honours) degree from a recognized higher education institution in a relevant subject and to have met the minimum required grades.

Entry requirements for Nepalese

  • You need to have a Master’s degree, following a three-year Bachelor's degree, to apply for one of our postgraduate taught courses.
