Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood)

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) is for university graduates who wish to become an early childhood teacher, educating children in their vital early years of life, from 0-6 years of age.

Students study the Diploma either on campus or via distance. Distance students study their program off-campus, and attend three on-campus intensives.

Students who successfully complete the Diploma will meet Matatu Aotearoa Teaching Council of New Zealand graduating teachers standards requirements and may be eligible for provisional registration with the Council as a teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Job Opportunity Potential

Successful completion of this Graduate Diploma meets Matatu Aotearoa | Teaching Council of New Zealand graduating teachers’ standards requirements. Upon successful completion, graduates may apply to the Teaching Council for provisional registration which enables them to apply for teaching positions in Aotearoa.

This program is designed to meet the requirements of Aotearoa settings. Applicants should contact the relevant authorities for international requirements.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

The academic entry requirements for admission to this qualification are:

Students must either have:

  • 1. a qualification equivalent to a New Zealand university bachelor degree, or
  • 2. been admitted with Academic Equivalent Standing as entitled to enroll for a Graduate Diploma

An overall average of 75% with a minimum of 60% in English in All-India Senior School Certificate or the Indian School Certificate; or an overall average of 80% with a
minimum of 65% in English from one of the following three Indian State Board Year 12 qualifications:

  • Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC);
  • Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Higher (Secondary) School Certificate;
  • Karnataka Pre-University Certificate; or one year of successful study towards an undergraduate degree at a recognized university in India

One year of successful study (B average / First Class / First Division) towards an undergraduate degree at a recognized university in India with a current NAAC accreditation of B or better;

  • Completed a degree at a recognized university with a current NAAC accreditation of C or better.
