Master of Psychology
Since the issuance of Mendikbud Decree No. 0324 / U / 1994 on the National Curriculum of Psychology Study Program, it was decided that the terminal of Higher Education of Psychology in Indonesia is the one-undergraduate academic education (S-1) with a degree in psychology. Prior to the issuance of the Decree the higher education of psychology is education that integrates professional academic education with the Dra./ Drs. And the name psychologist. Thus the Faculty of Psychology University of Airlangga has done psychology profession education. With the change of the 1994 luriculum, the graduates of the Study Program since the implementation of the curriculum in 1994 only received a degree in psychology, and have not been recognized as a profession of psychologists.
At this time and the future demands of the need for the role of Psychologist in Indonesia is higher. Given the contextual changes of society in the social, political and economic sectors will lead to complex bio-psycho-social problems, the need for professional Psychologists is growing. Based on the in-depth evaluation by professional psychology organizations in this case the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI) concluded that the competence of psychology as a scientist is still considered inadequate in meeting the demands of society in handling the existing bio-psycho-social problems, both in terms of competence levels and from professional ethics, so many malpraktik encountered among them and of course this will be very detrimental to society and the survival of the profession of psychology.
From the in-depth study that has been done about the psychology profession abroad, it turns out that in some developed countries the profession of psychologist demands higher competence of bachelor's graduate competence, that is equivalent to the stratum master, even in certain countries the competence of psychologist should be equal to doctoral strata.
Based on the above thinking, in the Congress of HIMPSI in Bandung in 2000, it was decided that the need to increase the competence of undergraduate psychology in Indonesia to become a psychologist equivalent to master (strata two in the system of higher education) with the title magister psychologist (analogy with magister notariat or master management) . The implementation of professional education is conducted on the basis of cooperation between professional organizations and universities that have met the requirements.
Coordination forums between the psychology higher education and HIMPSI who joined in the Indonesian Psychology Colloquium forum after conducting in-depth study also concluded and decided in the form of agreement that the education of the profession of psychology is synchronized with magister education.
The Master of Psychology Professional Program at Airlangga University's Psychology Faculty is an educational program that provides professional knowledge, builds professional attitude and professional psychology skills, which emphasizes the application of psychology in responding to the needs of the community, with various forms of psychological service and practice, group, community or institutional.
The Master of Professional Psychology Study Program was established on May 5, 2009 (formerly named Profession Master Program in Psychology) based on the Rector Letters of Airlangga University. 4928 / J03 / PP / 2003 Decree of Central HIMPSI Number: 001 / PP Himpsi.IP / VIII / 03 / PI; extended based on Decree no. 001 / PP.Himpsi.
