BIOCHEMISTRY AND MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY B.Sc (Hons)

Keele’s Biochemistry programs offer broad and stimulating coverage of modern biochemistry. You might explore the secrets of the human genome, or the individually tailored molecular therapies of the future. Particular emphasis is placed on human and mammalian biochemistry, especially relating to health and disease. You can create a four year degree by doing a work and industrial placement between the second and third year.

This combined honours degree includes Medicinal Chemistry, where you’ll develop deep understanding of the complex chemical and biological processes involved in the design and manufacture of drugs and other therapies for treating disease. This course prepares you to help solve problems at the intersection of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and pharmacology. The goal of medicinal chemistry is to support the search for new drugs to treat conditions such as heart disease and cancer. You’ll work in well-equipped laboratories, and learn to conduct effective independent research. Keele also offers support to find an industrial or research placement for a summer. You’ll develop essential skills for employment, such as problem solving, presentation and communication. The Biochemistry course scored 97% for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey in 2016.

CISCE / CBSE / West Bengal Class XII: 60% - 90% required depending on course. Plus any subject-specific requirements.

All other State Boards Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard Class XII: 65% - 95% required depending on course. Plus any subject-specific requirements.

2 years of study must have been completed.

English Requirements

CISCE/CBSE Class XII: 70% or above in English, depending on course.

All other State Boards Class XII (except Punjab or Mohali School Education Board): 75% or above in English, depending on course.

Must have been completed within the last 5 years.
