PUBLIC HEALTH - BSC (HONS)

The focus of the Public Health BS(c) Hons is on improving the health of entire communities and populations; this involves encouraging the improvement of physical, social and mental health outcomes and wellbeing of people within and across defined local, regional, national or international populations, with emphasis on reducing health inequalities.

The programme will align with the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework and clear links with employment opportunities (for example, public health practitioner, sexual health advisor, health promoter, research assistant) and further academic development (for example, Masters in Public Health, the public health training programmes).

The programme aligns with the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework and provides the basis to progress further in a career in public health; examples of future opportunities, locally as well as globally, include:

  • Public Health Practitioner
  • Sexual Health Adviser
  • Health Promoter
  • Research Assistant
  • Project Co-ordinator (UK based as well as globally)

Working for a voluntary or third sector organisations (e.g. British Heart Foundation, UNICEF) or in the social care sector.
It provides the basis for further academic development, for example, students may apply to begin the Masters in Public Health degree or the Public Health training programme. It also acts as a strong science base for other university postgraduate programmes and other clinical programmes, such as MBChB Medicine.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Level requirement CCC
  • Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 2 years post GCSE study or work experience. Although it is recognised that some applicants will be mature students where this may not be applicable.

BTEC REQUIREMENTS

  • BTEC Extended Diploma MMM
  • BTECs taken in combination with other Level 3 qualifications are also accepted (contact admissions@keele.ac.uk for further information)
  • Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 2 years post GCSE study or work experience. Although it is recognised that some applicants will be mature students where this may not be applicable.

ACCESS TO HE DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS

  • 96 UCAS Tariff points including a minimum of 15 L3 credits at Distinction

GCSE REQUIREMENTS

  • In addition to meeting one of the above criteria, we also ask for the following GCSE requirements:
  • English and Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent qualifications.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with an overall score of 27
  • Applicants are expected to have a minimum of 2 years post GCSE study or work experience. Although it is recognised that some applicants will be mature students where this may not be applicable.

India

CISCE / CBSE / West Bengal Class XII: 60% - 90% required depending on course. Plus any subject-specific requirements. 

All other State Boards Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard Class XII: 65% - 95% required depending on course. Plus any subject-specific requirements. 

2 years of study must have been completed.

English Requirements

CISCE/CBSE Class XII: 70% or above in English, depending on course.

All other State Boards Class XII (except Punjab or Mohali School Education Board): 75% or above in English, depending on course.

Must have been completed within the last 5 years.

The study should be taught in English. Otherwise, IELTS is required.
