Master of Indigenous Studies

This taught program combines the innovations emerging from the world of Indigenous research with a critical analysis of the political, cultural, economic and methodological issues that Indigenous peoples deal with in their struggle for self-determination (tino rangatiratanga).

The program is underpinned by Indigenous worldviews. It gives you the opportunity for intellectual engagement, learning, and research that contributes to new insights and approaches to Indigenous issues and research.

You will have the opportunity to study widely in relevant areas right across the University.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Minimum program requirements

  • Normally this requires a completed bachelor honors degree or postgraduate diploma from New Zealand, or an acceptable equivalent postgraduate qualification from a recognized university (or similar) overseas.
