Diploma of Nursing

If you are empathetic, caring and have great communication skills, and want to nurse people back to health then HLT4115 Diploma of Nursing is the course for you. This course provides you with the current skills and knowledge in order to fulfill the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and to practice nursing in a variety of settings, including mental health, primary health, acute care, aged care and palliative care areas.

You will gain all the requirements aligned to current industry trends and will graduate with the following skills:

  • how to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing
  • have an understanding of anatomy and physiology
  • how to implement infection prevention and control measures
  • how to provide nursing care for the client
  • how to understand Australian legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice
  • how to provide person centred care where independence and empowerment is fostered
  • how to implement culturally safe care for Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander people
  • how to contribute to the care of people with mental health issues

A large part of your studies will be a clinical placement. Upon completion of this course you will have the qualities to become an Enrolled Nurse. All students enrolled in this Diploma are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) for the course duration. On completion of all course requirements, you may be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requires students to have an IELTS score (academic module) with a minimum overall score of 7.0 and a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking) to meet their registration requirements. It is an admission requirement that prospective students provide English Language achievement in one of the following AHPRA approved tests including:

  • Academic IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 across all bands.
  • Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the 4 components.
  • PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the 4 components.
  • TOEFL iBT at a minimum overall score of 94 with reading at a minimum of 24, listening to a minimum of 24, speaking at a minimum of 23, and writing at a minimum of 27.

OR If English is your primary language and you have undertaken and satisfactorily completed:

  • a. all of your primary and secondary education which was taught and assessed solely in English in a recognized country, and
  • b. tertiary qualifications in the relevant professional discipline, which you are relying on to support your eligibility for registration under the National Law, which was taught and assessed solely in English.

OR You have a combination of secondary education and tertiary qualifications, where you have undertaken and satisfactorily completed:

a. at least two years of your secondary education was taught and assessed solely in English in a recognized country, and

b. tertiary qualifications in the relevant professional discipline, which you are relying on to support your eligibility for registration under the National Law, which was taught and assessed solely in English in a recognized country.

OR You have undertaken and satisfactorily completed at least six years’ (full-time equivalent) continuous education taught and assessed solely in English, in any of the recognized countries, which includes tertiary qualifications in the relevant professional discipline which you are relying on to support your eligibility for registration under the National Law
(Recognised country means one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, or the United States of America).

Results from the English language tests listed above can be achieved either through one test sitting, or a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period.
