Izmir Institute of Technology
Izmir Institute of Technology is one of the state universities in Turkey and one that was established in 1992 with a view to offering a high level of education and carrying out research in technological fields. The medium of education at our Institute is English. It is the only Turkish institutes of technology, which are the most advanced models of technical universities in today’s world. Our institute, covering approximately 3,500 hectares of land, has a closed area of about 132,000 square meters for educational and research activities and it is still developing.

All educational and research activities conform to international norms. With our student and project-based educational methods, our mission is to pave the way for contemporary individuals who will be able to produce the necessary technologies for their country with their creativity, research ability and success in team work. Graduates are highly appreciated both within the country and abroad and we can justifiably boast that they are admitted to top master’s programs with scholarships. Besides this, from very early years, our students are encouraged to study in fully equipped laboratories for their personal development in the related fields.
Important Facts
At our institute educational and research activities are carried out in 12 undergraduate, 24 master’s and 13 doctorate programs with a total of 5.139 students, 3.354 of which are here for their undergraduate education. It should also be noted that 6 of the master’s and 3 of the doctorate programs are interdisciplinary.
Currently, there are approximately 370 research projects supported by the State Planning Office (abbreviated as DPT in Turkish) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (abbreviated as TÜB?TAK in Turkish). Additionally, nearly 500 research projects are backed by IZTECH Research Funds. Thus, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that our Institute enriches the world science by contributing to universal knowledge. Apart from this, in accordance with its mission to encourage production of high added value, our Institute is also home to the ?zmir Technology Development Zone, which has become synonymous with the institute itself. Within this zone, about 150 firms operate in their relevant fields, which gives our students the chance to both take part in the research and serve their internships. In this way, they sometimes enjoy the privilege of making future work contacts or even start their professional lives by setting up their own businesses within the zone.
