PLANNING THEORY AND PRACTICE

1. To provide students with an overall understanding of urban planning both as a discipline and as a profession and its relation to other professions.(LO1) 2. To present a comprehensive introduction to the basic concepts of theoretical and practical issues of urban planning. (LO2) 3. To introduce major theoretical approaches in urban planning discipline in a historical perspective, in parallel to major developments in the world. (LO3) 4. To emphasize procedural aspects of planning including various methods and techniques to understand and design the planning process and to provide the students to develop guidelines when performing practice.(LO4)

The course will cover the topics: Concept of planning and the framework of planning theory; Evolution of planning theory and practice; The practices and processes of planning; Implementation tools of planning, Planning ethics.
