Master of Arts in STEM Education

Our M.A. in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education offers the unique opportunity for students who have undergraduate degrees in mathematics, engineering, or the sciences to pursue an initial New Jersey teaching certificate in mathematics and/or the sciences and a Master's degree simultaneously. We prepare our students for successful careers as highly-skilled teachers in one of our concentrations - mathematics or science.

Our program is carefully designed such that all coursework has a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) focus that provides the ideal pedagogical preparation for prospective mathematics or science teachers in the K-12 setting.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Current professional resume
  • Typewritten statement of professional objectives
    • Provide reasons for pursuing the program. Describe how you might use this program to advance your career (educational goals beyond the master's level, if applicable, are also relevant).
  • Two letters of recommendation
    • Letters of recommendation should be from professional administrators and include information that attests to the applicant's ability to pursue a graduate degree
  • Recommended minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Submission of official test results demonstrating passing scores on the Core Academic Skills for Educators: Praxis Core Basic Skills Test (Reading, Writing, Math)
  • Submission of official test results demonstrating passing scores on all Praxis II Exams required for specific licensure area
  • Interview
  • On-site writing sample (conducted during the interview)
