Bachelor of Economics (Honours)
Honours in Economics is a program offered within the Research School of Economics that offers students who have excelled in their undergraduate studies a challenging but rewarding year of study in economics. We seek outstanding students who are keen to undertake independent economics research with the guidance from academic staff. Past students graduating from the Honours in Economics program have been highly successful with careers in government, Industry and academia in leading institutions and organisations around the world.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge and critical understanding of research design and methods
- Apply that knowledge to the development of a research proposal and research plan
- Develop the capacity to perform high-level independent research
- Exhibit in-depth knowledge of their chosen research topic
- Demonstrate a high level of ability to critically analyse and evaluate economics research questions and communicate the results.
Campus Information
Acton campus
Our Acton campus is in the heart of Canberra - Australia's capital city - in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). From here it's an easy walk, bike ride or drive to some of Australia's most significant political and cultural institutions including Australian Parliament House. Amongst our modern lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, student residences and administration buildings, you'll find all the conveniences of a small suburb including cafes, bars, supermarkets, child care centres, a newsagency, post office and even a medical centre.

- The International Students studying in ANU, Canberra gets PSW of 3 years after completion of UG Programs.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Applicants who complete a recognized secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application. A list of commonly observed international qualifications and corresponding admission requirements can be found here. Applicants must also meet any program-specific requirements that are listed below.

In order to achieve these outcomes, a competitive ranking of applicants may be adjusted to ensure access to ANU is a reality for brilliant students from countries across the globe. If required, the competitive ranking may further be confirmed on the basis of demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency.
A score of 70% or more with no section less than 65%
Academic IELTS An overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component of the test.
TOEFL paper based test A score of 570 with a TWE* score of 4.5.
TOEFL internet based test An overall score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening.
Cambridge CAE Advanced (Post 2015) An overall score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in all sub-skills.
PTE Academic An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 55 in each of the communicative skills.
An AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years:
in a cognate discipline
completion of one of the following majors or equivalent:
Mathematical Economics major
Economics Major (must include ECON3101 and ECON3102)
completion of ECON3100 Economics 3(H) (or equivalent) and ECON2125 Optimisation for Economics and Financial Economics (or equivalent) with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) of courses with highest final marks, excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses), from courses from one of the majors which must include 18 units from ECON3100 Economics 3 (H), ECON3101 Microeconomics 3 and ECON3102 Macroeconomics 3.
