Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) Philosophy
The study of Philosophy tackles some of the biggest questions in life while teaching you the crucial skills of thinking critically, writing clearly and reading carefully. The questions explored include: What is justice? How do we know things? What does it mean to be conscious? Does God exist? Do the sciences tell us the truth about the world? Is time travel possible? What is truth? And many more.
Learn to distinguish between good and bad arguments, and make informed recommendations on contentious issues. Studying Philosophy allows you to explore a vast range of influential ideas, from the ancient philosophers (whose works are preserved in manuscripts from India, China and Greece) right down to cutting-edge contemporary work on pressing ethical issues, the nature of mind and artificial intelligence. Because Philosophy teaches you the critical thinking skills fundamental to success in every field, the Philosophy major makes an excellent combination with more vocational programs of study including Law, Medicine, Computer Science, Business and Psychology.
This major should not be confused with the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours), which is a separate undergraduate degree course.
