UAL Level 3 Applied General in Art & Design

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR
If you are considering a career in Art & Design and want to try out different art disciplines before making up your mind, this course is for you. It can lead to careers in Illustration & Graphic Design, Textile Print & Fashion, Comic Art & Animation, Fine Art & Applied Art. You will practice drawing from observation and learn to use professional mark-making and shading techniques. You will study the use of colours in design, and learn digital skills with creative software and iPad Apps. You will explore printing & painting techniques and construction of 3D forms using traditional and unusual materials. You'll develop ideas for 2D, 3D and time-based live projects, learning through practical and critical activities to express yourself.

COURSE CONTENT
The course is divided into two separate parts. In your first year you will study to complete a diploma and in your second year you will achieve an extended diploma which is equivalent to 3 A levels. It will prepare you for entrance to a relevant degress course and we will help you develop a successful portfolio for your interview as well as helping you to manage your UCAS application process. Past students have gained entrance to a range of prominent degree courses in many different areas mentioned above. We have strong links with the University of Arts London aim-higher programs and will recommend you to free spring and/or summer courses during your first year. You will learn skills that universities really value and skills that will enable you to compete for degree places successfully. You will practice drawing from observation and learn to use professional mark-making and shading techniques. You will learn how to master the use of colours in design and learn digital skills with Illustrator, Photoshop and iPad Apps. You will be able to explore fabric printing techniques, pattern making and construction of three dimensional forms using unusual materials including fashion fabrics. You will explore a range of ideas within 2D, 3D and time-based projects and you will learn through practical and critical activities to express and gain new knowledge. You will also study the history and contemporary practice of art and design with exciting exhibition visits. We aim to provide you with work experience opportunities and live projects where possible.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

4 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English or maths and an art/design subject or a Level 2 qualification at merit/pass with GCSE English or maths at grade 9-4 (grade A- C). For the interview, you can bring your GCSE Art coursework and sketchbooks.
