Master of Teaching (Secondary) / Graduate Certificate in Religious Education
Entry to this course is governed by the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. The selection of course entrants is based on academic merit and satisfaction of non-academic capabilities for entry to initial teacher education. In accordance with the mission of ACU, the Faculty of Education and Arts is committed to providing access to education for a diversity of students. This is the combination of the Master of Teaching (Secondary) and the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education.
The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education provides the certification, fundamental knowledge, skills and competencies needed to teach religious education.
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is for graduates who want to become secondary school teachers and have an appropriate undergraduate degree. Graduates will meet the requirements for teaching in Catholic, independent and government high schools and other secondary schools.
Depending on their undergraduate degree this Masters degree will prepare students to teach specialist areas including:
- Visual arts, media arts, music and/or drama
- English
- Mathematics
- Economics and business
- Humanities and social sciences
- Languages
- Health and physical education and outdoor education
- ICT and digital technologies
- Science
- Religious education.
It enables students to adopt a research-based approach to reflective practice. They’ll be able to consider the implications and applications of this approach to their own professional development and its contribution to their students’ learning and wellbeing.

65 with a minimum of 58 in all four communicative skills

Internet based total of 94: minimum 24 writing, 20 speaking and listening and 19 in reading

Demonstrated current registration with an accredited body that has an English language requirement equivalent to, or higher than, the standards required by the University. Recognised registrations include:
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration other than Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Health Practice registration;
Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Teacher registration;
Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Teacher registration; and
NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Teacher registration.
Or
At least one full-time year of study of an Australian secondary or tertiary qualification at AQF Diploma level or higher, and completed no earlier than five years prior to the commencement of the course of study to which the student seeks admission;
Or
Demonstrated successful completion of at least one full-time year of study of an overseas qualification equivalent to an Australian secondary or tertiary qualification at AQF Diploma level or higher, where the medium of study was English, and completed no earlier than five years prior to the commencement of the course of study to which the student seeks admission.
