Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (24 credit points)
Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (48 credit points)
Master of Mental Health Nursing (60 credit points)
Completion of this degree can be a pathway into the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).    

Our Capstone (Research) will equip you with the critical thinking skills and research training necessary to prepare you for a higher research degree.

With mental health nurses employed across hospitals, in patient and community settings, and in independent practices, you will be recognised as having advanced knowledge in mental health nursing and possess the expertise to take on leadership positions, mentor new nurses and influence future health policy.    

As a graduate of a specialist nursing degree, you can expect to progress your career through promotion and advance your salary by a minimum of 30 percent from that of an experienced registered nurse.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A successful applicant for admission to the Master of Mental Health Nursing will hold:

(a) a pre-registration nursing degree with credit average from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification; or

(b) an embedded graduate certificate or graduate diploma in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

In addition, the applicant is required to be a registered nurse in Australia or overseas and satisfy the English language proficiency requirements.

Domestic applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience as a registered nurse and be working primarily in the provision of care to people with mental health problems.

International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in mental health nursing.

TOEFL - IBT score - A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 25 in Writing

IELTS score - A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band

TOEFL - PBT score - A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing

Pearsons Test of English - A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
