The International Program in Crisis and Trauma
Gain hands-on experience in one of the world’s hubs for crisis and trauma research. The unique stresses of modern life, combined with natural disasters and geopolitical conditions, have led to the rapid growth of the field of crisis and trauma studies. There is a growing need for trained professionals with the knowledge and experience necessary to handle diverse situations. With Israel and Tel Aviv as a living laboratory for research and practice in the field, there is no better place than TAU to gain deeper knowledge and professional competence in this field alongside the world’s leading experts in crisis and trauma studies.
This one-year program is designed to train students to plan and deliver services in a wide range of personal and communal crises, including public disasters created by war, natural disasters, and terrorism, as well as personal crises related to immigration, domestic violence, divorce, illness and bereavement.
The Crisis and Trauma Program will equip its students with the knowledge and skills to act in two main capacities. The first is as first responders, for which they will learn to identify the immediate and long term needs, to carry out initial interventions, and to refer the persons to the appropriate services for further assistance. The other is as psychosocial disaster and crisis intervention managers, for
which they will be taught to develop and implement intervention programs for the stricken groups and communities.
Graduates of the program receive an M.A. degree in Social Work (not an MSW).
