MATHEMATICS WITH STATISTICS

The course covers selected topics of algebra, trigonometry and statistical methods in research. Students learn how to simplifying algebraic expressions and solving linear equations with one or two variables, vectors, proportions, and logarithms. The course relates mathematical theories to the field of life sciences and biology by providing relevant examples. Students learn how to use scientific notations, exponents, equations and inequalities.

Large part of the course is dedicated on peer-learning and flip class activities which are also reflected in the final students’ grade.Students are expected to take active participation in the flip class activities that will be scored as part of the final grade. At the end of the course students are able to compare and contrast examples of mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, and variables. Students learn about the concept of statistical power and how this is linked to sample size, t-test and p-value, correlation and reliability.
