BA (Hons) 2D Animation and Character for Digital Media

This course focuses on animation, storytelling, and character creation, encouraging groundbreaking and innovative visuals in traditional animation, 2D gaming, concept art, and many other possible traditional and digital mediums. You’ll develop essential skills in character design, production design, and animation, and explore context to your studies. Using the latest technology in our award-winning Film, Music, and Media Building, you’ll hone your individual style. Eventually, you’ll produce an eye-catching showreel and body of work to wow potential employers or set yourself up as the next Miyazaki. This course is accredited by Creative Skillset – run by animation professionals – reflecting the highest standard of teaching

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

  • BCC - L3 in Art and Design or a creative subject which includes drawing.

BTEC

  • DMM -  subjects including Art and Design, Games Art and Amination, Amination, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games, Animation and VFX Skills (NextGen), UAL Extended Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media (Production)

Undergraduate (year 1)

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)

  • Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post-Standard XII to be considered
