BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists work to improve the everyday life skills of people who experience physical, social, and psychological difficulties by helping them to engage in meaningful occupations.
This degree, which is approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), is designed to give you the sophisticated knowledge, as well as the analytical and practical skills, needed to critically assess a service user’s circumstances in order to help them adapt to their environment and maximise their performance potential.
Campus Information
Talbot Campus
Talbot Campus is where the majority of our Faculties are located and is also where you'll find the main university facilities, such as The Sir Michael Cobham Library, the Student Centre and SportBU - a fully equipped sports centre and gym. There are many study spaces where you can work in groups or individually within the library and the Student Centre, as well as in the Purple Lounge.
Lansdowne Campus
Our Lansdowne Campus is just a few minutes' walk away from Bournemouth town centre. It's home to our Faculty of Health & Social Sciences and where you'll find the Executive Business Centre (EBC), the facility used by the Bournemouth University Business School to deliver some of its postgraduate courses.

Job Opportunity Potential
There are a wide range of roles open to you once you qualify as an occupational therapist, not just in the NHS but also within local authorities, social services, schools and the private sector. Every role is rewarding in its own way and this course will prepare you to work as an OT in a variety of environments, helping people from all walks of life.
You can specialise in paediatrics, mental illness and learning disabilities, among others, or you can go into teaching or research.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Please see below some examples of the qualifications for entry onto Year 1 for September 2021and September 2022 entry:
- Chinese Senior High School Graduation Certificate (Huikao) average 80%, or Gaokao 76-85%. The grade depends on the course
- Hong Kong HKDSE Diploma (4,4,4 – 4,4,5 from three subjects). Grade depends on the course
- All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Standard XII) 75-85%
- Italian Esame di Stato with 75-85%. Grade depends on the course
- Titulo de Bachillerato with 7.5 or 8. Grade depends on the course
Entry requirements for Bangladeshi students
BU International College Foundation Certificates
- You can undertake a Foundation Certificate before going on to an undergraduate course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling in Bangladesh and achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0.
Undergraduate courses
- You can apply to study for a Bachelor's degree from year one if you have a Bachelors's degree from a recognized Bangladeshi institution, with at least two years of study.
Entry requirements for Indian students

- You can undertake a Foundation Certificate before going on to an undergraduate course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling in India and achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0.
Undergraduate courses
- You can apply to study for a Bachelor's degree from year one if you hold a Higher Secondary School Certificate/Standard XII and have achieved an average percentage of at least 65% (although some courses will require this to be higher).

- You can undertake a Foundation Certificate before going on to an undergraduate course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling in Sri Lanka and achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0.

- You can apply to study for a Bachelor's degree from year one if you have successfully completed Sri Lankan A-levels and have the required grades for your course.
