BSc (Hons) Midwifery
What career could be more rewarding than one that helps to bring new life into the world? This course, with an accreditation by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, can teach you to do just that.
With a strong emphasis on women-centred care, the course offers an equal balance of theory and practice. Alongside learning knowledge from highly qualified and experienced practitioners, during compelling units such as antenatal & postnatal care of mother & baby, labour & birth, pathophysiology, and medicines management, you’ll also use our clinical skills rooms to practise your skills in a safe environment, before transitioning into the workplace. There you’ll get to spend 50% of your course time on placements with mothers and their newborn babies.

Talbot Campus
Talbot Campus is where the majority of our Faculties are located and is also where you'll find the main university facilities, such as The Sir Michael Cobham Library, the Student Centre and SportBU - a fully equipped sports centre and gym. There are many study spaces where you can work in groups or individually within the library and the Student Centre, as well as in the Purple Lounge.
Lansdowne Campus
Our Lansdowne Campus is just a few minutes' walk away from Bournemouth town centre. It's home to our Faculty of Health & Social Sciences and where you'll find the Executive Business Centre (EBC), the facility used by the Bournemouth University Business School to deliver some of its postgraduate courses.
Portsmouth Campus
St Mary’s Community Health campus, Portsmouth, is a BU teaching base dedicated to BSc (Hons) Midwifery students. The campus forms part of St. Mary's Hospital, which is a component of Portsmouth Hospital Trust.Occupying a floor of the hospital, you will have a very practical experience benefitting from a dedicated teaching environment of lecture theatres, seminar rooms and practice simulation suites while being based in a hospital setting.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Please see below some examples of the qualifications for entry onto Year 1 for September 2021 and September 2022 entry:
- Chinese Senior High School Graduation Certificate (Huikao) average 80%, or Gaokao 76-85%. Grade depends on the course
- Hong Kong HKDSE Diploma (4,4,4 – 4,4,5 from three subjects). Grade depends on the course
- All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Standard XII) 75-85%
- Italian Esame di Stato with 75-85%. Grade depends on the course
- Titulo de Bachillerato with 7.5 or 8. Grade depends on the course
Entry requirements for Bangladeshi students
BU International College Foundation Certificates
- You can undertake a Foundation Certificate before going on to an undergraduate course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling in Bangladesh and achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0.
Undergraduate courses
- You can apply to study for a Bachelor's degree from year one if you have a Bachelors's degree from a recognized Bangladeshi institution, with at least two years of study.

- You can undertake a Foundation Certificate before going on to an undergraduate course if you have successfully completed 12 years of schooling in India and achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0.
Undergraduate courses
- You can apply to study for a Bachelor's degree from year one if you hold a Higher Secondary School Certificate/Standard XII and have achieved an average percentage of at least 65% (although some courses will require this to be higher).
