Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts - Theatre

As a Communication Major, you will be equipped with a broad base of knowledge as well as hands-on training in a wide variety of communication fields, preparing you for many career paths after you graduate. We provide a well-rounded education for an increasingly diverse communication and media landscape. Every Communication Major will take a core of classes in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Basic Journalism, as well as selecting a series of theory classes in things like Mass Communication, Public Relations, Persuasion, Organizational Communication, or Acting.  Then students will choose a specialization in at least one of the following emphases:  Broadcasting, Public Relations, Journalism, Speech Communication, and/or Theatre. The Theatre program core curriculum includes theatre, public speaking, and journalism for a wide diversity of job opportunities. A main stage play production is produced each semester. In addition to those two larger productions, smaller projects are often presented, giving students many opportunities for performance and technical experience. The entire campus community is encouraged to participate in all theatre production and stage roles and technical staff are not limited to theatre majors or minors. Each area with the Communications Arts and Media Department offers a hands-on Workshop every semester. Workshop is a way for students to get specific, practical experience. The students in Theatre Workshop provide support to play productions and other projects within the Theatre Department. Students are required to have four semesters of Workshop to graduate, insuring that they earn hands-on experience in their field.
