BA (Hons) in Acting

BA (Hons) Acting is a practical performance-based programme, running in parallel to the established and successful BA (Hons) Theatre.

You will become a member of a shared creative community, where cultural identity, experimentation and research are central to the process of making live and recorded theatre. The programme recognises the importance of craft and technique, but also of critical thinking, in relation to the performer at the heart of the creative process of theatre.

You will work with established text and develop an understanding of key acting styles and contexts; you will also work to produce and perform in original work and develop highly relevant professional contacts that set you up for demanding, diverse and flexible careers in the professional theatre. Across all three years, students are engaged in a developed vocational programme, designed to develop significant skills, ideas and experiences relevant to creative performance careers.

Bishop Otter Campus

Our Bishop Otter Campus in Chichester is set in beautiful surroundings with plenty of relaxing green space and a combination of attractive, historic buildings and excellent modern facilities. Back in 1839, the campus was founded by William Otter, Bishop of Chichester. 180 years later, the University still retains a strong sense of history as original parts still remain. Chichester is a beautiful city which offers a wealth of history and culture. It has many historical places to discover such as Chichester Cathedral, Market Cross and Chichester City Walls. Alongside its history, Chichester is surrounded by breath-taking sandy beaches with East and West Wittering beaches only 20 minutes away from campus. The South Downs National Park begins just 1.5 miles from our Chichester campus. From rolling hills to bustling market towns, the South Downs National Park's landscapes cover 1,600km² of breath-taking views and hidden gems. With Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton all under an hour away, the University of Chichester is perfectly placed for exploring the south coast.

Audition: Candidates will be asked to attend an audition day. You will present two prepared speeches, talk with staff about their interests and ideas for making theatre and take part in a devising workshop. You will get the chance to meet current students over lunch.
