Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science BSc (Hons)
Developed by a pharmacy team, this degree course provides an understanding of the chemistry and engineering components of pharmaceutical and cosmetic product design and manufacture.
Our research-active academics have experience in the fields of pharmacy, engineering, chemistry, pharmacology, and microbiology. Their strong collaborations with the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries mean that this curriculum is continuously reviewed to ensure we’re equipping our students with the advanced skills sought by graduate employers.
On this course, you’ll cover compounding, formulation chemistry, pharmaceutical processes and technologies, microbiology, professional and quantitative science skills, cell biology and chemistry, pharmaceutical formulation, chemical analysis, quality and stability, cosmetic science and products, and pharmaceutical product development and manufacture. In year three you’ll also have the opportunity to choose your own elective modules.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Entry criteria
- A typical offer is a minimum of 104 points from at least two A-levels including Chemistry and one other science subject at grade C or above, from Biology, Human Biology, Physics, Statistics, Maths/Further Maths, or Psychology
- BTEC National Diploma - Applied Science Distinction/Merit/Merit, or
- BTEC Extended Diploma - Applied Science Distinction/Merit/Merit
Plus five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English Language
Alternative qualifications include:
- Pass Access in the QAA Science Access to HE with 15 levels 3 credits in Chemistry at Merit and 15 Level 3 credits in a second Science at Merit. English Language and Maths GCSE at grade 4 or higher required as separate qualifications. Equivalency not accepted within the Access qualification.
We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course
- International Baccalaureate: 24+ with 6 higher level points in Chemistry and another science (preferably Biology)

- Minimum of 65% average in your four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in Standard 12. We may also check your standard 10 results in English and Maths.
- For Engineering courses, you will need a minimum of 60% in Maths.
