BA (Hons) Journalism

On BA (Hons) Journalism you will learn all the essential skills of journalism, producing content for a wide range of print and online platforms. We will teach you how to write and research news stories and feature articles; you will create video and interactive content; design newspaper, web and magazine pages; and become adept in using all the latest digital storytelling tools for websites and social media. You will also study the development of journalism and its principles and ethics.

A key element of this course is the range of optional subjects you can take, among them modules in sports writing, fashion journalism, broadcasting, public relations, podcasting, scriptwriting and investigative journalism.

Graduate with both an honours degree and the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism, the industry-recognised qualification, significantly boosting your employability.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To study for a University of Sunderland degree you need to meet the course entry requirements.

If English is not your first language you should have at least one of the following qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Generally, the course requirements will be a minimum score of 6.0, with at least 5.5 or higher in each component: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
Any score above 180.

Cambridge Certification in Advanced English (CAE)
No score lower than 170.

O-Level English Language or GCSE English Language
You need grade C or above (UK Exam board).

Malaysian SPM 119
You need grade 6 or above (only grades 1, 2 or 3 are acceptable for Law).

Degree or HND taught in English for Postgraduate students
Proof of qualification is required.

Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) II
