BSc (Hons) Design Technology Education with QTS

BSc (Hons) Design Technology with QTS is a fast-track route into teaching, taking just three years to be a fully qualified teacher.

You'll develop your skills and knowledge to teach design and technology in a creative and imaginative way, using a variety of different approaches. Through exploring your understanding of teaching and learning of secondary design and technology, you can apply your subject knowledge and expertise to planning, teaching and managing the classroom.

You can also choose to specialise in another STEM subject, giving you the unique ability to teach across two STEM disciplines.

This degree awards Qualified Teacher Status, which means that when you graduate you’ll be qualified to teach in any state-maintained school in England and Wales. You'll qualify as a Design Technology teacher but with the option of another STEM subject speclialism.

STEM teachers are in high demand. The average starting salary for a teacher is £24,373, and experienced teachers can earn up to £62,735 outside London, and £70,540 in London. Head teachers can reach a salary of between £46,457 and £114,060.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To study for a University of Sunderland degree you need to meet the course entry requirements.

If English is not your first language you should have at least one of the following qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Generally, the course requirements will be a minimum score of 6.0, with at least 5.5 or higher in each component: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
Any score above 180.

Cambridge Certification in Advanced English (CAE)
No score lower than 170.

O-Level English Language or GCSE English Language
You need grade C or above (UK Exam board).

Malaysian SPM 119
You need grade 6 or above (only grades 1, 2 or 3 are acceptable for Law).

Degree or HND taught in English for Postgraduate students
Proof of qualification is required.

Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) II
You need Merit or Distinction.
