Certificate III in Individual Support

If you have a genuine interest in caring for older people then our course in individual support will help you gain essential, person-centred skills and knowledge to care for and support older people living in residential and aged-care facilities.

In this health course, you’ll learn how to provide physical and psychosocial support for older people, including how to:

  • support people who may be living with dementia and/or other illnesses
  • prevent falls
  • support independence and wellbeing
  • develop communication skills in health and community services
  • work in aged care setting

You’ll understand how to comply with the accreditation requirements in the aged-care sector, and you’ll be ready to deliver outstanding customer service and support to older people.

During our individual support course, you can benefit from the opportunity to do a work placement with leading industry aged-care providers.

Elgar

Located 14 kilometres east of Melbourne City, this campus has two locations, each named after the roads they are on – Elgar and Nelson.

Box Hill

Box Hill Institute offers courses that are delivered through blended learning as a combination of on-campus (face-to-face) and online study. Courses delivered through blended learning involve attending remote classes run through a range of specific industry platforms and require you to work unsupervised on your coursework.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

International students must have completed:

  • Australian Year 10 or international equivalent with a pass
  • A current National Police Check (must be arranged after the course commencement, but prior to commencment of work placement)
  • Evidence of Immunisation Requirements: 'Category A' Health Care Worker, prior to placement (i.e. Diphtheria/Tetanus; Poliomyelitis; Measles/Mumps/ Rubella; Varicella Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox); Hepatitis B; Mantoux Test, Flu vaccine) (must be arranged after the course commencement, but prior to commencment of work placement)

PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.

A minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 550 for paper examination;213 for computer based and 79 for internet based or approved equivalent.
