Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
If you'd like to become a qualified early childhood educator, our early childhood education and care course will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge to successfully work in a range of early childhood settings.
In our early childhood education and care course you’ll study:
- the principles and practices of early childhood pedagogy
- child development
- health and wellbeing
- working in partnerships with families
- legal and regulatory compliance
- managing teams and care environments
You'll learn how to design and implement educational programs that support developmental outcomes for children from birth to twelve years of age. Enhance your skills and confidence in classes with experienced and supportive trainers, in practical children’s services simulation rooms and during extensive industry work placement.

Elgar
Located 14 kilometres east of Melbourne City, this campus has two locations, each named after the roads they are on – Elgar and Nelson.

City Campus (Melbourne)
Our City Campus is co-located with the Centre for Adult Education in the heart of Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD).
Lilydale Lakeside
Our new higher education facility is based in Lilydale, with strong ties to industry and employers. Also located at the campus is the Yarra Ranges Tech School and Lilydale Library.
Lilydale Campus - John St
The Box Hill Institute John St building is part of the Lilydale Lakeside campus. It’s where we teach our trades courses in Lilydale and also where the Adult Migrant English Program is delivered.
Bankstown Campus
Bankstown Airport is located approximately 26 km from the Sydney CBD and has three runways, a small passenger terminal and a business park. It also has its own dedicated air traffic control tower and operates 24 hours a day.
Box Hill
Box Hill Institute offers courses that are delivered through blended learning as a combination of on-campus (face-to-face) and online study. Courses delivered through blended learning involve attending remote classes run through a range of specific industry platforms and require you to work unsupervised on your coursework.

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
International students must have completed Australian Year 12 or international equivalent with a pass. Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.
A current Working with Children and Police Checks are required prior to commencement of work placement.
Complete questionnaire, vaccination/ immunisation record* - will be given to you on enrolment day to be signed by your GP .
*Students who accept an offer of a place must provide evidence of having commenced an immunisation course against Hepatitis B and must be fully immunised against Rubella and Tetanus. An immunisation against Hepatitis A is also advisable.
PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accepts enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.
A minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 550 for paper examination; 213 for computer based and 79 for internet based, or approved equivalent.
