Master of Midwifery (Research)

This research master prepares students to be independent researchers with the ability to develop and implement a research proposal relevant to midwifery.

The course is directed both at students with an interest in research and those planning a research career.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Apply cognitive, technical and creative skills to explore and extend contemporary practice through research activities.
  • Apply communication and collaboration skills to analyse and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge in the field of midwifery.
  • Reflect critically on a complex body of midwifery knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery in the field of midwifery.
  • Use high-level self-management skills to plan and execute a substantial piece of research.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

All applicants are required to be a Registered Midwife, and have a relevant undergraduate degree, with equivalents considered, and a minimum of two years post-registration clinical experience.

Academic admission requirements (Band 8) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English competency requirements may be satisfied through the completion of one of the following (Band 5):

  • International students are required to provide an IELTS Academic with an overall minimum score of 7.0 (no individual band less than 7.0) or any other equivalent test approved by AHPRA. Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement.
