New Zealand Diploma in Te Reo (Immersion) (Level 6)
New Zealand Diploma in Te Reo (Rumaki) (Level 6) is intended for proficient speakers of te reo M?ori who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia M?ori; or who have a personal and/or professional interest in, te reo M?ori. The learners will want to communicate in te reo M?ori independently with spontaneity and precision to articulate and critique ideas and theories, and to seek information in whanau, marae, professional and/or academic contexts.
This programme is intended for proficient speakers of te reo M?ori and provides an opportunity for people to learn te reo M?ori in a safe and supported learning environment based upon the legacy of nga matua tupuna. Tikanga M?ori is integrated throughout the programme in a manner that is conducive; to enhance learning; to provide meaning; to create understanding and awareness; and above all to apply respectfully. In addition to the acquisition of te reo, graduates will have developed skills and knowledge of associated lexis in a specialised area. They will also have specialised technical and theoretical knowledge to conduct research.

They will have an advanced- understanding and awareness of te reo that can be utilised to support and complement current skills and knowledge in their area of employment, in the public and private sectors, such as:
senior administration roles;
senior policy analysts;
liaison person, team leader;
senior M?ori Cultural advisors;
senior teachers/educators – general and reo M?ori; kaiawhina, language guide in Kohanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa M?ori, Primary Schools, or in the workplace;
script writers, or broadcasters in M?ori Radio;
health advocates, or healthcare support workers;
lead roles in the arts sector – singers, composers, writers, artists, actors;
senior roles as tour guides, instructors, or kaitiaki in the Tourism sector;

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)
- Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
- Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)
- Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
- Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)
Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

- Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand
- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- IELTS test - Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
- TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
- TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
- Cambridge English Examination - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
- OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
- NZCEL - a) Expiring Level b) Current: a) Level 4 (General) or (Workplace) b) Level 4 (General) or (Employment)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
- Language Cert - B2 Communicator International ESOL Written (LRW) HIGH PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS
- Trinity ISE - ISE II with no less than merit in any band
