Taking the knowledge from the previous levels (Levels 1 to 3) in Te Reo M?ori and develop further your Te Reo M?ori skills in this Level 4 programme, the second part of the 36-week programme, New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo M?ori (He P? Ka Rere) Level 4, moving towards full-immersion.
You will develop a deeper understanding of the M?ori culture and further build confidence in your M?ori language skills. This is an interactive bilingual intermediate level M?ori language programme that incorporates the beginnings of full-immersive.

Develop a greater understanding of the M?ori culture while you practice and build confidence in your M?ori language skills. Learn alongside others at the same level and have fun while you’re doing it.
In this programme you’ll learn a variety of sentence structures using te reo M?ori in a range of formal and informal situations. You’ll be able to explain and practice tikanga M?ori as well as learning a range of waiata and karakia.
When you finish the course, you’ll have the confidence to advance to full-immersion learning.
You will learn:
active and passive sentence structures
extending your vocabulary
using different tenses
distinguishing between M?ori and non-M?ori sentence structures.
You will know how to:
use a variety of sentence structures
use te reo M?ori in a range of formal and informal situations
explain and practice tikanga M?ori
use a range of waiata and karakia.
You must complete both Level 3 and Level 4 to receive the qualification. You will automatically be enrolled into Level 4 once you enrol into this course.

- Use Te Reo M?ori vocabulary and grammatical structures at an advanced - intermediate level
- Use Te Reo M?ori at an intermediate-level to show an understanding of their connections to the land and the environment, prominent places, people, histories and stories, as an expression of mana whenua
- Use Te Reo M?ori at an intermediate-level in selected contexts to develop a growing knowledge base of, and an emerging respect for Te Reo, as an expression of mana reo
- Use Te Reo M?ori at an intermediate-level to achieve tasks and guide others in specified contexts as an expression of mana ao turoa
PSW Opportunity
- During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
- After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
- After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- IELTS test - General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
- TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE)
- TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14)
- Cambridge English Examination - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill.
- OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
- NZCEL - a) Expiring Level b) Current: a) Level 4 (Academic) b) Level 4 (Academic)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36
- Language Cert - B1 Achiever IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than PASS in each skill
