The Bachelor of Psychology at Charles Sturt University can provide you with the current minimum academic requirements for provisional registration as a psychologist.

A flexible degree

This degree puts you in control. You can choose to study on campus at Bathurst, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga. Alternatively, you can study online, with live and recorded lectures and flexible schedules so you can fit your learning around your other commitments. You may even be eligible to receive credit for prior study and graduate sooner.

CSU provides you with a comprehensive degree in psychology. You will acquire knowledge across a range of key areas, including cognition, developmental and social psychology, psychological testing, biopsychology, psychopathology, personality, learning theory and research methodology. After graduation, you'll be able to apply for provisional registration as a psychologist.

Follow your interests

In addition to the compulsory psychology subjects, you will also complete  a minor study in another discipline to enhance your study experience. Minors are available in a range of related disciplines, including business, history and politics, justice studies and social welfare. A broad choice of psychology electives is available, including Psychology of Crime, Health Psychology, Psychology of Substance Abuse, Psychology and the Legal System and Psychology of Stress and Trauma. You may also have the opportunity to complete a supervised experience at an international university.

Take your study further

All students must satisfy academic criteria by the end of third year (or equivalent) to progress to the fourth year (or equivalent) of this course. Meritorious students will be eligible to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours).

Job Opportunity Potential

A four-year psychology course opens many doors in the workforce. Currently, upon graduation from the Bachelor of Psychology you may apply for provisional registration as a psychologist in Australia. You could then become eligible for general registration as a psychologist with at least two years of supervised practical experience. Alternatively, you may be eligible to progress to an APAC-accredited fifth-year program (followed by one year of supervised practice), or an APAC-accredited fifth and sixth year, which also lead to eligibility for general registration.

PSW Opportunity

Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane: 

Regular 2 years post study work visa for international students completing Bachelors and Masters degrees (minimum 92 weeks), 3 years for Masters by Research and 4 years for PhD. graduates 

Other Locations (Regional centres and other regional areas):

International students studying at regional universities will be eligible to access an additional
2 years in Australia on a post-study work visa
(Which means a Bachelors or Masters graduate can get up to 4 years of PSW visa) 

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Bachelor of Psychology must meet the following Admission Requirements:

  • A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with an ATAR of at least 75 (including adjustment factors).
    OR
  • Have completed at least 8 subjects or more of a Bachelor (or higher) level qualification with a GPA of 5.0.

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirement for the Bachelor of Psychology may be eligible for entry into CSU's Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology). This course is identical to the first three years (equivalent full-time) of the Bachelor of Psychology.  There is an established course transfer pathway between the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and the Bachelor of Psychology in the third year.
