Subject to approval, you may receive credit for prior study and graduate sooner. When you study with Charles Sturt University you may also apply to complete some subjects at an international university.

Gain a solid foundation
When you study a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) at Charles Sturt University you'll gain knowledge in cognition, developmental and social psychology, psychological testing, biopsychology, psychopathology, personality, learning theory and research methodology.

Choose your path
A broad choice of electives is available, including the Psychology of Crime, Health Psychology, Psychology of Substance Abuse, Psychology and the Legal System, and Psychology of Stress and Trauma. In addition to the compulsory psychology subjects, you will also complete subjects in sociology and a minor to enhance your study experience. Minors are available in a range of related disciplines, including business, history and politics, health and biology, justice studies and Indigenous studies.

Transfer to further study
The Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) may also be used as a pathway to the Bachelor of Psychology for students who do not meet the initial entry requirements for the Bachelor of Psychology, as the ATAR (or equivalent) for entry is lower. Students in the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) who meet certain eligibility criteria at the end of the third year will be able to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology or Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) program.

International students studying at regional universities will be eligible to access an additional
2 years in Australia on a post-study work visa
(Which means a Bachelors or Masters graduate can get up to 4 years of PSW visa) 

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) must meet the following Admission Requirements:

  • A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with an ATAR of 65 (including adjustment factors).
    OR
  • Successful completion of two university level subjects in any discipline area.
    OR
  • A completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate IV or higher, studied at a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent.
    OR
  • A completed Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) or bridging program studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University, or equivalent.
    OR
  • Partial completion of a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Diploma, of at least 50% from a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent.
