Accounting Studies (Post-Degree Diploma)

Get the skills and knowledge you need to kick start a career in accounting with the Accounting Studies Post-Degree Diploma. This program is for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than commerce or business administration.

Students whose degree is in commerce or business administration should apply for entrance into the Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting program.

Graduate job-ready with the Career Boost program 

Designed for post-degree students, the Career Boost program prepares you for part-time paid or volunteer positions that complement your studies. You’ll participate in career-building workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, career fairs, networking with employers, peer-led leadership meetings and more. Once you graduate, you’ll get the continued support, skills and knowledge you need to find a full-time job in your field.

Steps after graduation

Graduates gain the skills to secure junior- to intermediate-level accounting positions in fields including financial accounting, cost accounting and financial management. Students interested in pursuing further education can transfer seamlessly into our Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting program, opening up doors to more senior employment opportunities.

The Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting Studies partially satisfies the entrance requirements of the Chartered Professional Accountant’s (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).

If your program was less than 8 months

  •    You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or an equivalent credential from an approved institution of a different country. Any applicant who earned their credential in a language other than English must meet the Douglas College English language proficiency requirement.

This program is intended for students with degrees in areas other than Business. Applicants whose undergraduate degree is in business administration should look at the Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting program to determine if this is a more suitable program.

English Language Proficiency

  • Minimum overall score of 6.5 (no band below 6.0 for Post-Degree and Post-Baccalaureate programs)
