Academic Foundations (Indigenous Studies)

Looking for an education that centres Indigenous culture, research and knowledge? The Certificate in Academic Foundations – Indigenous Studies is designed to deepen your understanding of and relationships with Indigenous communities. 

Engage with the histories of Indigenous peoples and territories while you learn about contemporary contexts. Develop academic skills in a learning community that honours traditional knowledge. This program welcomes all Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. 

A great starting point for your education 

Courses in this one-year program cover a wide range of subjects, including Indigenous Cultures in B.C., Transforming Legislation and Policies, Global Indigenous Histories, Academic Writing and more. This certificate is a great starting point for your education and is designed for maximum transferability to programs at Douglas College or other institutions. Many of these courses can be used as electives for other programs at Douglas.

COQUITLAM CAMPUS

The Facilities & Ancillary Services Department is responsible for planning and developing Douglas College facilities, operating related services and for the ongoing maintenance of the college and its equipment. The Department's goal is to maintain buildings, grounds and equipment at a high operational level, and to provide students, faculty, and staff with a well maintained and pleasing campus environment.

If your program was less than 8 months

  •    You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Note that some courses in Math, Statistics, or Lab Sciences have high school prerequisites, therefore, it is strongly recommended that you check each individual course prerequisite and ensure you have completed requirements prior to registration.
