ONIRIS Ecole Nationale
Oniris is a higher education and research institution of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
It has a very broad thematic range including animal health and public health, clinical, biomedical, food science and process engineering.
Oniris aims to be a player in the fields of food and animal and human health, actively contributing to the concept " one medicine, one health ".
Oniris trains about 1100 students, including the corresponding courses:
- veterinary professions (diploma of veterinary doctor). The specificity of this training pathologists and biologists is to combine the skills acquired by training by the clinic, including within a hospital at European level, those resulting from training through research,
- Engineering trades (engineering diploma) with two in-depth studies: (i) "agri-food / food", (ii) "bioproduction".
In these two in-depth studies, the Oniris engineering training benefits from a very strong anchoring in the industrial fabric and very specific professionalizing tools that are conducive to innovation, such as technological halls in quasi-industrial conditions.
Oniris is the only French institution in which veterinary students and student food / agribusiness engineers interact. While remaining specific, the veterinary and engineering curricula add value to each other in terms of job diversification and better employability.
Thus, one of Oniris' strong specificities in terms of food and food innovation is to integrate the issues related to the consideration of food safety throughout the industry, to the industrial process, to the nutrition / health, well-being, social sciences and humanities.
Oniris' ambition is to train high-level professionals able to respond to major international issues in health and nutrition.
Students are immersed in a "Citizens School", for example by their contribution to social opening operations of the type "strings of success".
Thanks to its accreditation to deliver the doctorate and its offer of masters, Oniris has a very attractive training-research, in articulation with the various research organizations, INRA, INSERM, CNRS, IFREMER, ANSES.
Four themes position Oniris notably through its research units:
- a " farm animal health " thematic aiming to respond to food sufficiency issues, through the prevention and management of animal health crises, and to human health through the prevention of biological risks or chemicals in the food chain;
- a " food safety and quality " theme contributing to the production of knowledge and methods to ensure the production of food of good sanitary, nutritional and sensory quality;
- a " food processes, management and sustainable development " theme aimed at designing and evaluating innovative and sustainable agro-food processes to produce food that meets industrial strategies and consumer expectations;
- a " human health, clinical and biomedical, translational research " theme aimed at understanding the pathological mechanisms and producing innovative treatments for animal and human diseases, particularly in the context of strong interactions with the Regional Health Cluster .
