The Master of Creative Arts provides students who have completed an undergraduate degree in a creative arts discipline, with advanced academic and professional skills in creative practice research and creative art production.
The program is aimed at future learners, creators, visionaries, citizens, practitioners, critics, programmers, policymakers, and curators with interdisciplinary tailored online, off-site, and face-to-face learning. Experiences are real-world-centered, respond to future debates and challenges in the creative arts. Seize your own dedicated space to formulate, develop, and deliver a dynamic critical practice-led project that engages with the productive uncertainty of creative pursuits. The program suits both professional and research careers.
The Master of Creative Arts is available in any of the disciplines of Creative Arts: Visual Arts, Photography, Film and Television, Animation, Design, Dance or Drama.
Work experience
Elective units may provide the opportunity for Work Integrated Learning experiences.
Campus Information
Melbourne Burwood
The Melbourne Burwood Campus is Deakin’s largest. A short trip from Melbourne’s central business district, Burwood offers the perfect balance between city lifestyle and suburban comfort. On campus you will find impressive buildings and world-class facilities, a wide range of learning and social spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere. If you enjoy getting outdoors between classes, the Melbourne Burwood Campus also sits alongside parkland, which is great for walking, jogging and cycling.
Geelong Waterfront Campus
Located in the heart of Geelong, the Geelong Waterfront Campus has spectacular views of the bay. Used as wool stores in the 19th century, this campus has been renovated to create an impressive, modern space that offers an inspiring study environment. The unique mix of old and new allows for engaging and creative spaces, and its central location means students can visit Geelong’s central business district between classes. In 2019 a new ferry travelling between Melbourne and Geelong was launched. The ferry offers a comfortable and convenient mode of transport. It docks a short walk from the Geelong Waterfront Campus. Train and bus services are also regularly available between Geelong and Melbourne.

Admission requirements
Applicants are required to have completed at least a bachelor's degree, or comparable, of an acceptable standard from an approved university or other educational institution. Some degrees may have additional entry requirements, which you can find on the course pages in this guide. Masters degrees by coursework that include a research stream may provide a possible pathway to Ph.D. candidature.
Mandatory student checks
Any unit which contains work-integrated learning, a community placement, or interaction with the community may require a police check, Working with Children Check, or another check.
