Launch a career investigating and prosecuting crime, or defending the criminally accused, with a law and criminology degree from VU.

Our Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Criminology will give you broad knowledge of the causes and consequences of crime. You'll gain expertise in criminal investigation, sentencing, and security, at national and international levels.

You will also develop practical skills in investigating and providing strategic advice in relation to crime and crime management.

The Bachelor of Laws satisfies the academic requirements to become an Australian Lawyer, as required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB). In order to become an Australian Lawyer, you'll also need to complete Practical Legal Training or an equivalent.

City Flinders

City Flinders Campus is a modern building in the centre of Melbourne’s busy central business district (CBD) You could be studying courses as diverse as osteopathy and business at this campus. It is opposite Melbourne’s grand Flinders Street Station, the Yarra River and the Southbank precinct. The campus is a perfect location for transport, shopping, food and cafes, or to hold a special event at our our Convention Centre.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

Indian School Certificate (issued by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 65% average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language).

All India Senior School (issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education)

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 65% average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language). 

Higher Secondary Certificate/ Intermediate Certificate from State Board

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 70% Average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language). Qualifications are assessed on an individual basis.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

You will need to provide evidence that you have achieved one of the following levels of English language proficiency:

  • IELTS (Academic module): Overall score of 6.0 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 67. Section score no less than:
    > Listening: 12
    > Speaking: 18
    > Reading: 15
    > Writing: 21
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 50-57 (no section score less than 50)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 169. No individual band less than 169.
  • VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 5): achieved.

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing your course.

In some cases we will accept test results from other methods of examination not listed above.
