International ESOL, Non-certification (MAEd)

The Traditional Class A Option is designed for teachers who already hold Class B certification in any teaching field. Completion of this program leads to an Alabama P-12 certification in ESOL.

ESOL Alt A

The Alternative Class A Option is designed for candidates who hold a baccalaureate degree in any field. Completion of this program leads to an Alabama P-12 certification in ESOL.

International ESOL

The International ESOL Option is designed for candidates who wish to teach adult English language learners in the United States or to teach any level of English language learners in other countries.  The International ESOL Option does not lead to P-12 certification in ESOL in Alabama.

TESOL Certificate

The TESOL Certificate is designed for candidates who wish to have training in working with English language learners but who do not wish to pursue the Master of Arts in Education degree.  It includes the coursework from the first year of the International ESOL Option.

All official test scores must be sent to UNA directly from the testing centers.

Language proficiency is a required of all international students. This requirement can be met in two ways: through a test score from a recognized agency or through UNA's English as a Second Language Program.
