Bachelor of Arts in Latina/Latino Studies
Program Learning Outcomes:
- To understand and identify the origins and context of diverse individual and group experiences of Latinas and Latinos in the United States.
- To develop an understanding of Latina/Latino Studies that is community-centered, reflexive, gender sensitive, and grounded in a multidisciplinary perspective.
- To assess the historical and contemporary experiences of Latinas and Latinos with special emphasis on gender and how gender structures identities, roles, and relationships both domestically and transnationally.
- To develop competency in the research and analysis of the personal, family, immigration, gender, and youth histories of Latinas/Latinos in the United States through the utilization of oral history and ethnographic theoretical perspectives and methodologies.
- To be able to make links between content in the Latina/Latino Studies curriculum and practice in the community.
- To develop an area of expertise and depth in Latina/Latino populations in the United States. In addition to the major's multidisciplinary foundation, we encourage students to sharpen their expertise in Latino demographics and one of the three broad areas of our departmental course offerings: #1 Arts and Humanities, #2 History, or #3 Behavioral and Social Science.
- To develop competency in writing skills relevant to Latina/Latino Studies and Ethnic Studies.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to SF State as a freshman, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Complete the required A-G college preparatory courses with a grade of C- or better
Due to the impact of COVID-19, SF State will accept grades of "Credit" or "Pass" for A-G college preparatory courses taken in Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall 2020 terms and during Winter, Spring or Summer 2021 terms.
2. Meet the GPA requirements based on residency or high school
Your high school grade point average (GPA) is calculated using all A-G college preparatory courses completed after 9th grade.
The CSU has temporarily suspend the use of ACT/SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility for the Fall 2021 - Spring 2022 and Fall 2022 - Spring 2023 admission cycles. First-time freshmen must meet the following GPA requirements:
Residency or High School GPA Requirement
California resident or graduate of a California high school 2.50 or greater
Non-California resident 3.00 or greater
3. Graduate from high school (diploma or GED)
?Your final high school transcript should show all of your grades and your date of graduation.
4. Meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement
?If you attended a US high school for at least 3 years, you meet the English Proficiency Requirement.
If you have attended a US high school for less than 3 years, you should be prepared to submit proof of English proficiency.
To be eligible for admission to SF State as a freshman, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Be academically prepared for college/university
Complete a secondary/high school curriculum that totals 12 years of primary-secondary education, be qualified to enter a university in your home country and have a good scholastic record from an accredited/recognized school.
2. Meet the GPA requirement
Have a a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) in the 4.0 grading scale or B- average in academic courses completed after 9th grade.
3. Graduate from high school
You should have or will have, the equivalent of US high school completion
4. Meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement
