Master of Social Science in Community Health Science
Community Health Science is an interdisciplinary track for completing the Master of Social Science program that challenges students to apply knowledge from the social and behavioral sciences, to identify patterns and formulate explanations for population health and health related careers. Areas of application include epidemiology, public health practice, global health, health policy, cross-cultural perceptions and communication of health needs, and the organizational and social structures through which health services are delivered and received. This track provides students courses in social and communication theory, demographics and ethnic dimensions to public health, basic research methods, and statistics in order to facilitate development of problem solving and critical thinking skills in the areas of epidemiology, public health and public health education, and health planning.
Required courses for this track total 18 credit hours consisting of 9 hours devoted to the core social science courses required of those admitted to the Master Social Science program and the remaining 9 credit hours being methods courses in the Health and Behavioral Sciences (HBSC) department.

Types of Employment
Work-Study
Work-Study is a financial aid award that allows undergraduate and graduate students to work part-time to earn money to pay for educational expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the recipient's course of study. Students earning work-study funds are paid bi-weekly. If awarded work-study, students may search open positions on the Handshake job board.
Students can be awarded Federal or Colorado Work Study. Not sure if you have Work-Study? It will be a specific line item in your financial aid award package located in your student portal.
Student Hourly
Student Hourly positions are on-campus positions funded by a university department’s budget. Work-study and/or financial aid is not required for this type of employment. All hourly students must be enrolled in some credit-earning capacity during the semester in which you are employed. Students may search open positions on the Handshake job board.
Regular Hourly
Regular Hourly positions are offered by businesses in the surrounding Denver community, and are not affiliated with the university. All students, regardless of enrollment or financial need, may apply for these positions through the Handshake job board.
