Environmental Resource Management, Certificate of Specialization

The Environmental Resource Management Certification Program (ERM) is designed to provide education and training for individuals interested in working in the recycling and resource management/green jobs sector. As more cities, businesses, and institutions develop sustainability and resource management policies and programs, there is a need for people who can serve as sustainability coordinators, environmental educators, resource managers, and environmental program advocates. The ERM curriculum emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach that explores recycling and resource management from a variety of perspectives and settings. Curriculum will provide students with a general knowledge of environmental resource management emphasizing cultural, community, business, and educational applications. Courses will also include opportunities to develop environmental advocacy programs and projects as well as entry to related internships and shadowship opportunities.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admissions Requirements

Admission to Orange Coast College is granted to those applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • High school graduation.
  • Certificate of Proficiency or a G.E.D. from the State of California.
  • Attainment of 18 years of age and who, in the judgment of college officials, is capable of profiting from instruction at our college.
  • Enrollment between the 9th to 12th grade and recommendation for advanced academic or vocational college-level study.

Students enrolled as 9th-12th grade students may enroll for courses at Orange Coast College under provisions of the Education Code, sections 76001 or 76001.5, and in accordance with the district's policy and the following guidelines:

  • Students must be enrolled as 9th-12th grade students at their schools.
  • The course is an advanced academic or vocational experience for the student and not available at their regular school.
  • Students must have a Dual Enrollment form, signed by the principal or the designee of their school, recommending the specific course or courses.
