Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education

The early childhood program is based on the belief that educators must have a strong theoretical base of understanding in young children’s growth, development, and learning processes. The educator must master a variety of instructional strategies and responsive behaviors for working with young children in the educational setting. A developmentally appropriate educational environment is imperative for young children to construct knowledge at various cognitive and experiential levels. The educator is taught to support children in their total developmental process.

What is the minimum ACT or SAT score for acceptance?

Oklahoma City University is a test-optional university, there is no minimum test score requirement. Oklahoma City University recalculates every high school grade point average on a standard 4.0 scale. All Pre-AP, Pre-IB, and Honors courses are weighted on a 4.5-point scale (A=4.5, B=3.5, C=2.5, D=1.5), and AP, IB, and Concurrent courses are weighted on a 5 point scale (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2). Our calculation will be used for admission and scholarship purposes.

Each application is given careful consideration based on the student's high school and/or college record, college entrance exam scores, class rank, required essay, desirable character, and personality traits, as well as the applicant's interests and goals in relation to the programs of study offered by the university.

Every student will be reviewed through our holistic pathway, which evaluates students on their admission application, high school GPA, class rigor, involvement, service and leadership, counselor recommendation letter, and additional letter of recommendation(s). Students should answered all questions on their application—even those that are optional and consider submitting a secondary letter of recommendation from a core subject teacher and their activities, service and leadership resume.

The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request any additional information before a decision for admission is made. Providing false or incomplete information on the application for admission may result in a denial of admission or revocation of enrollment.
