HIGHER EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION, MS

Our MS in Higher Education Administration can help propel you upward in student or academic affairs, while preparing you to support learners from all backgrounds.
You see, we believe understanding the needs of diverse student populations—including first-generation students, underrepresented minorities, international students, those facing economic hardships, and more—will help you make a real difference in their education experience. That's why we designed a curriculum to give you specific leadership skills required in this field. In fact, we have three paths you can pursue to get there, depending on your career and academic goals. One of the best parts? Courses for all the options are available online. If you want to complete a thesis—ideal for those interested in research and eventually pursuing a doctoral degree—you'll complete 39 hours of coursework. That includes six hours of thesis research. Or, maybe you're already working in higher education, or you're ready to jump right into the field. If so, a non-thesis track, which is 36 hours of coursework, might be a better fit. We also offer an Academic Advising track. You will complete a practicum course and then submit an experiential project. Whichever way you choose, our goal is to prepare you to make a real impact in higher education.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
International students from non-English speaking countries are required to submit English proficiency scores (TOEFL/IELTS/PTEA) that meet the Graduate School's minimum score requirements.
TOEFL: 80
IELTS: 6.5
PTEA: 53
IELA: 176
Duolingo: 120
We will only accept English proficiency scores that have been taken within a two (2) year period from the date that the application was submitted. Scores that exceed this time frame are considered expired and will not be accepted. We will not accept English proficiency test scores that are more than two years old unless program requests a recency waiver on the applicant's behalf.
Applicants must contact the testing agency to have the official scores sent to the UAB Graduate School. TOEFL scores should be submitted to institution code 1856; IELTS and PTEA scores should be issued electronically or mailed directly to the UAB Graduate School.
UAB does not accept My Best Scores from TOEFL. You will need to submit individual test date score reports to your application.

The applicant has earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree in the United States with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
The applicant is a citizen of one of the following countries:
