Media Arts and Creative Entertainment, Certificate of Achievement

The Media Arts and Creative Entertainment Certificate program is a Career Technical Education specialty, designed for the student who wants a concentrated course of study in the field of acting/directing coupled with film and television production. It has been designed to introduce students to the skills necessary to create their own recorded media projects or prepare students for entry-level employment in the entertainment industry. Completion of this certificate will foster an understanding and appreciation of the various artistic and technical aspects of camera and narrative production. Students will be educated in performing, directing, storytelling, camera operation, event documentation, lighting, sound, post-production, and business practices. The required 12 units give the student a strong foundation, while the 5 elective units allow students to concentrate on their particular area of interest within this collaborative field.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admissions Requirements

Admission to Orange Coast College is granted to those applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • High school graduation.
  • Certificate of Proficiency or a G.E.D. from the State of California.
  • Attainment of 18 years of age and who, in the judgment of college officials, is capable of profiting from instruction at our college.
  • Enrollment between the 9th to 12th grade and recommendation for advanced academic or vocational college-level study.

Students enrolled as 9th-12th grade students may enroll for courses at Orange Coast College under provisions of the Education Code, sections 76001 or 76001.5, and in accordance with the district's policy and the following guidelines:

  • Students must be enrolled as 9th-12th grade students at their schools.
  • The course is an advanced academic or vocational experience for the student and not available at their regular school.
  • Students must have a Dual Enrollment form, signed by the principal or the designee of their school, recommending the specific course or courses.
