Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art

11 to 13 courses. These shall include foundation courses ART 110, ART 111, ART 112, ART 113, and ART 351 , and upper level art history ART 345 or ART 347; at least one additional art history or art history seminar course; at least two additional studio courses from among ART 354, ART 355, ART 356; and at least two additional studio courses from among ART 358, ART 359, ART 360. The declaration of major form will be submitted upon completion of ART 110, ART 111, ART 112, and ART 113 or by the end of the sophomore year. All candidates for the B.A. degree must complete the competency requirements as stated under REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DEGREES and the DISTRIBUTION REQUIREMENTS by selecting any two units from Group I, II, and III and one unit from IV. An art course can count towards the Group IV unit. If a Goup IV unit is taken outside the department a credit is given towards graduation. If the unit is taken within the department a credit is not given, instead the credit is only counted once towards the major. Courses taken credit/no entry may not be applied toward the major. ART 301, ART 302, and ART 307 and credits awarded for an apprenticeship/internship are not counted among the 11 basic units required for the B.A. degree.

  • One Essay should be submitted with the Common Application or our OWU Online Application.. You can choose the topic.  
  • English Language Proficiency:  We require all international students verify their English proficiency.  Please see the various English Proficiency options.  The University reserves the right to require additional English language instruction, if needed, upon arrival.
  • SAT Scores/ACT Scores are OPTIONAL for all students.  You will not be placed at a disadvantage if you are unable to submit standardized testing.  If you do wish to submit your testing, we would be pleased to consider your scores (SAT code 1594, ACT code 3316).  You may self-report scores but we will require official ones at the enrollment stage.  SAT/ACT scores are NOT required for Transfer Students.
  • Academic Records can be submitted through the Common Application website by the school or by email if sent directly from the school under their official email address. The official records should include each subject you study and the academic grade/mark or other evidence that you completed the course satisfactorily. Your record should contain an explanation of the grading system. They should be submitted in English or in the original language accompanied by a certified literal translation. 
  • One letter of recommendation is needed from a teacher, coach, or principal who is familiar with your recent academic performance. 
  • Submission of financial form online, accessed through the applicant portal, is required. Log in information will be given once the application has been submitted.
  • Interviews:  although interviews are not required for students, we welcome the opportunity to get to know you better through a personal interview - a conversation with a counselor.  OWU offers several options for interviews:
