Biological and Medical Sciences BSc (Hons)
In this programme you will choose to study from a wide range of content / modules from medically-relevant disciplines including Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology and Infection. This programme provides the opportunity to establish a solid Life Sciences foundation in semester 1 upon which you will continue to focus on the "Biomedical disciplines". The modules which you will undertake in year 1 enable you to experience a flavour of what we offer here at Liverpool. The modules you study in Year One, allow you to determine those areas of the Life and ""Biomedical"" sciences which you like and those you do not. Therefore allowing you to make informed decisions when it comes to your ""biomedical sciences"" module choices in years two and three. In the second semester of year 1 and throughout year 2 a C130 student will study core modules in that concentrate on physiology, pharmacology and cellular biochemistry. In year 2 there is the additional bonus of you being able to start to choose from our optional modules. In the third year specific disease areas are covered in much greater detail. You may decide during your C130 degree that you would prefer to focus on one particular degree discipline, rather than continue with the focussed blend of the Biological and Medical Sciences programme. The C130 programme allows you the opportunity to transfer to a single honours discipline, (at specific transfer windows) should your experiences guide you this way.
At Liverpool, we offer two routes for students wishing to study for a degree in Life Sciences. You can enrol on one of our Deferred Choice Programmes (C130 or C100) that allows students to learn about the different subjects available in Life Sciences before specialising, or retain their broad interests and gain a degree. Alternatively, students can enrol on a specific programme of study that specialises in one area of the Life Sciences.
