MPharm Pharmacy with Foundation Year

MPharm Pharmacy with Foundation Year - currently closed for 2022 applications

By studying the professionally-accredited undergraduate Masters degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) at Liverpool John Moores University you will enjoy innovative and high quality pharmacy teaching, plus opportunities to complete placements in community and hospital settings, inter-professional learning, patient/public engagement, and practice simulations with other healthcare students.
Foundation Year
The Foundation Year is ideal if you have the interest and ability to study for a degree, but do not have the qualifications to enter directly onto the MPharm programme yet. Once you pass the Foundation Year you will progress directly onto the first year of the MPharm - subject to attainment.

About MPharm Pharmacy

?The study of pharmacy is essentially about the design, manufacture, testing and use of medicines and most pharmacists work with the public, providing medication and advice out in the community, in hospital ward clinics or in GP practices. In this MPharm programme you will learn how new drugs are discovered, how they produce their effects and how they are manufactured. There is also a strong clinical strand in which you will learn how to examine and interact with patients and make sure that the right patients get the right medicines.

The MPharm Pharmacy programme offers you the opportunity to develop as a key healthcare practitioner with an advanced understanding of the science-basis for practice. We place a strong emphasis on ensuring the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviours and values necessary for individuals to work in partnership with other healthcare professionals in order to provide accessible, compassionate and integrated person-centred care with a focus on enhancing patient outcomes.

Over the next few years our MPharm programme will evolve based on the new General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) standards for the ‘Initial Education and Training of Pharmacists 2021’, providing our students with the necessary and appropriate knowledge, skills and confidence to become competent, safe and effective person-centred prescribing practitioners, while still retaining the advanced scientific knowledge and skills basis that is so unique to pharmacy.

Students will graduate from the LJMU programme with the confidence to continue personal and professional development more independently, with the confidence to begin making good clinical and professional decisions based on evidence and risk assessment, and with a spirit of team-based working. Following graduation with an MPharm Pharmacy degree, students will be fully prepared to begin the Foundation Training Year for trainee pharmacists, as part of the formal professional development path leading towards registration with the GPhC.
