Linguistics (English)
The Master’s in Linguistics offers students in-depth study of critical linguistic branches such as syntax, semantics and psycholinguistics. The program also includes an introduction to research methods in linguistics, and to problems in the philosophy of science as applied to linguistics, preparing the student for linguistic research.
The program offers solid coverage in the core areas of the discipline in teaching and research: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics alongside language acquisition & development, historical linguistics and contact linguistics. The program requires students to engage in cognitive science, computational & quantitative linguistic analysis, and the revitalization and documentation of endangered languages.
Students develop a scientific understanding of linguistic theory as well as an appreciation for the relationships between language and culture. Studying the workings of modern and ancient languages is a primary focal point in the course. Students undergo a pre-graduation internship and defend a graduation thesis before they receive a degree.
Upon successfully completing the program, graduates pursue careers in private and public schools, universities and community colleges, educational organizations, international companies (as copywriters, editorial assistants, reporters, managing editors or technical writers, speechwriters, interpreters, etc.)
